“What if we started out with him as a little boy?” asked George Lucas. He was talking to Steven Spielberg, when the idea of making an Indiana Jones film that introduced the character as a teenager was first brought up. The pair had been trying to develop a story to top off the trilogy of adventures that began with Raiders of the Lost Ark, but couldn’t settle on a premise that lived up to that film’s legacy. A previous attempt at a script had Indy exploring a haunted castle in the Scottish Highlands, shortly before embarking on a wild journey…
